Looking out over the water!
Here's a LIVE view of the straits from the live webcams at Highland Inn,
brought to you by us and our friends at IslandCam.

The Highland Inn is nestled on a wooded hillside overlooking the Haro Straits where it joins the Straits of Juan de Fuca. San Juan Island is home to three resident pods of over 80 Orca whales. From April through October the waters below the inn are their feeding and play grounds. They are easily seen and heard from the expansive decks. Bald eagles, owls and a myriad of other birds find nests along our coastline. Deer, rabbits, and fox abound. Whale Watch Park and the Lime Kiln Lighthouse are just a mile up the coast with many hiking trails and picnic spots along the way. We are blessed with a mild climate situated in the "rain shadow" of Vancouver Island and enjoy a sunny southwest exposure. Dress is casual on the island. Sweaters or jackets for cooler nights. This very private setting is the perfect location for romance, anniversary, honeymoon or just a quiet getaway surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. We are near . . . but so far away.

A full gourmet breakfast is served each morning in your suite, in the dining room or on the covered veranda overlooking the sea. Afternoon tea and Mrs. King's famous fresh baked cookies welcome you on arrival or when you return from an exciting day of exploring the island. Our inn is open all year. A two night minimum is required for Saturday reservations. Two spacious guest suites are individually decorated with your privacy and every comfort and pleasure in mind. Drink, shower or soak in our very pure glacial waters from the inn's private well which draws water from a depth of 700 feet...over 400 feet below sea level. On sunny or stormy days, the quiet atmosphere and beauty of the Pacific NW will provide the perfect surroundings for your special time away.

"Helen and Julia"
As a new owner/innkeeper of the Babbling Brook Inn in Santa Cruz, CA I entered a baking contest for the B&B innkeepers in the state annual conference in 1987 in Santa Barbara. The judge was Julia Child who gave me a blue ribbon and first place award for my "Pookie Muffins" I'm happy to share that recipe with you.

About the Innkeeper
Helen King, the owner/innkeeper, was previously the owner/innkeeper of the award-winning 12 room Babbling Brook Inn in Santa Cruz, California. The Highland Inn is a project that grew out of her love for the bed and breakfast business and of her deep insights and experiences over twenty years with guests. Why so many extra special touches?  Because she is hoping you will come to the island and have a "Highland Fling!"
